Nevertheless, these results highlight that the evaluation of the context is not sufficient to explain mobility behaviors in particular. In addition, place attachment is a relevant aspect to consider fort understanding the environmental evaluation and adaptation to climate change. In general, the results of these four studies highlight that the way in which the environmental situation is assessed partly explains adaptation to climate change. The latest study is also a survey that aims to analyze the links between evaluation of the environmental situation, pro-environmental behaviors and mobility behaviors. This research shows the links between place attachment, assessment of the environmental situation and behavioral adaptation (protective behaviors, pro-environmental behaviors). Study 3 focuses on people exposed to the climate change’ effects (floods or droughts). The second study is a quasi-experimental protocol that aims to study the dimensions of psychological distance of climate change and the coping strategies. The first study is a survey that examines how climate change and its effects are assessed, depending on the flood experience. For this purpose, we propose studies composed respectively of 325, 345, 626 and 445 participants. This thesis aims to study the links between the evaluation of an object as abstract as climate change and the adaptation to this environmental situation.
Together, the findings confirm the superiority of social to environmental framing in promoting pro-environmental behavior whenever prosocial and pro-environmental motives conflict. An overall analysis further confirmed that the combination of all hypotheses explained the data best. Furthermore, in two out of three experiments, social framing further increases pro-environmental behavior in comparison to purely environmental framing. Findings consistently show that both frames increase pro-environmental behavior in comparison to the control condition. We test this notion in three experiments (N1 = 131, N2 = 323, N3 = 259) manipulating the framing between-subjects (control, environmental frame, social frame) in a consequential social dilemma situation. As a consequence, framing pro-environmental behavior as beneficial for others-and thus prosocial on a higher level or in the long run-should increase pro-environmental behavior in comparison to framing it as purely beneficial for the environment per se.
Previous research suggests that individuals prioritize prosocial over pro-environmental motives whenever these motives conflict, that is, when cooperation and pro-environmental behavior are mutually exclusive. This book will be of interest to social and personality psychologists, and the book's applied emphasis will appeal to health, environmental, and industrial psychologists. Part three explores the role of time within interpersonal and group level processes as applied to such areas as close relationships, group cooperation, aggression, organizational behavior, pro-environmental behavior, and cultural issues. The second part focuses on individual level processes and reviews the conceptualization, measurement, and lifespan development of time orientation the outcomes associated with various time orientations and how temporal factors influence attitudes and persuasion. Some chapters outline novel theoretical approaches that help to expand and/or integrate existing theories. Organized into four sections, each chapter includes theory, research, applications, and directions for future research. Understanding Behavior in the Context of Time reviews the research on temporal orientation and brings together the disparate social behaviors influenced by time perspective.
